In the spring of 2018 a six-year cycle of studies of classical Buddhist texts ended in Grabnik. Many new people asked to join the studies to systematise their knowledge and deepen their understanding of the Dharma. On the other hand, many of those who have completed the six-year study cycle also wanted to continue with this kind of detailed analysis of other texts.
To meet the expectations of both groups, Lama Rinchen has decided that in the autumn of 2018 we would begin the study of one of the most important classic texts of the Mahayana teachings, the "Guide to the Bodhisattva's way of Life" by Shantideva. It mainly comprises of timeless and very practical advice on what kind of motivation one should have, and how to follow this in carrying out the actions of everyday life. It also provides explanations on meditation and emptiness.
As the teachings contained in the "Guide to the Bodhisattva's way of Life" embrace the whole of the Dharma, this text can also be treated as a summary of the six-year studies that have taken place so far.
The existing format for the study group has changed. Although we continue to meet for one weekend a month, there is no mandatory attendance, which means that one is also able to participate in lectures as one is able to. However, the new material is based on previous teachings, so one will get much more benefit from taking part in the entire cycle of study than just in individual classes.
